The Calm, Connected Home

Tricky behaviors don’t have to keep derailing your family life.

If You Love Your Child Deeply, but Daily Life Is Full of Meltdowns and Screaming Matches, You’re Not Alone.

You’ve tried all the traditional parenting advice, but nothing works for your kid. Gentle parenting, authoritative parenting, supplements, therapy, sticker charts. You name it, you’ve tried it. You are an actively involved, good parent - with a good kid - who is fed up with systems asking you to do more. You are exhausted from spending your days anticipating problems, trying to prevent the next eruption, and managing the fallout when it happens anyway.

There is another way. And it does not require your child to become someone they’re not and doesn’t require you to “just do more.”

As a mom of neurospicy kids, everything looked fine from the outside, but I was dying on the inside. I was working overtime to make life so steady because the outbursts were so intense that it was easier to try and prevent them. The problem? Preventing my kids from experiencing challenges was costing me my health, my career, and my personal relationships. I got the message loud and clear that parenting was supposed to be joyful. A privilege. And I felt so much shame for feeling like I was drowning.

In my family, everything changed when I stopped trying to fix the behavior and started focusing on understanding my kids instead.

Turns out that all behaviors are symptoms of an underlying need that our kids don’t know how to ask for.

This has been true of the thousands of families I have served for the past 30 years and what child development research supports: Your child doesn’t need fixing. Society is designed for one neurotype, and our kids’ beautiful brains are working overtime to fit in.

Here is what I needed to hear when my kids were young: Change doesn’t come from doing more or fixing the behavior. Change happens right now in the middle of the chaos by getting clear on understanding your child’s brain…why they lose their %$*# and what their brain & body needs most.

This is the shift most parenting approaches get wrong. Your child doesn’t need to be managed. They need to be understood. Deeply understood. And guess what? When you understand what the behavior is trying to signal – and know how to respond to the NEED and not the behavior – that’s when the behavior explosions slow down in frequency and intensity.

Not after you control the behavior but right there in the messy middle. That is where real life is lived and where you get your life back.

Here, we focus on what is driving the behavior, what your child actually needs, and the practical supports that fit your family. The result? Less chaos. Fewer behavioral disruptions. More calm, connection, and confidence at home.

This is my family now! Imperfectly thriving, no longer defined by the outbursts. But I couldn’t get there alone. Even as a child development expert, I had to ask for help. I couldn’t find my way out when I was in survival mode. I needed someone to show me the patterns I couldn’t see and help me build the skills to effectively support my kids.

Your Family Deserves This, Too.

Inside The Calm, Connected Home, we work together to identify the most disruptive behaviors, understand what’s driving them, and develop an individualized plan to meet their needs. We then shift to identifying what your child’s brain needs to thrive, and what they need from you when the world feels like too much. With that pressure released, we can shift focus to supporting YOUR nervous system when disruptions happen and develop tools to empower your child with knowledge of their own brain so you can stop being the manager of everyone’s nervous systems.

Over the course of 3 months, you will feel real change not just in your child, but in yourself. Imagine waking up without a feeling of existential dread, bracing for the day. You say yes to social events, because you no longer have to worry about public shame or the aftermath once you get home. You enjoy a random Tuesday evening with your kids, hanging out, playing games, going on a long walk.

The answer is not your kid becoming someone they aren’t. The answer lies in getting the right kind of support, right in the middle of the chaos. Support that helps you understand your child for who they are.
